Core checklist
Documents to prepare
Start with these core items, then use the supporting sections for evidence relevant to your circumstances and travel purpose.
- Scanned copy of the current passport with at least six months’ validity from the proposed travel date, including all used pages, plus relevant old passports.
- Completed online visitor visa form with the barcode receipt generated after selecting Validate; download the form to a computer before completing it.
- Family Information form completed without blanks and signed personally by the applicant.
- One scanned photograph showing a full front view of the head and shoulders, with the face centred. The supplied checklist specifies a head size of 31-36 mm, minimum image size 420 × 540 pixels, JPEG/JPEG2000 format and file size no more than 4 MB.
- Signed covering letter addressed to the Canadian High Commission, explaining the visit.
- Hotel or stay itinerary and supporting travel plans.
Personal financial evidence
- Personal income-tax papers for the last three years.
- Personal bank statements covering the last six months.
- Employees: salary slips for the last three months.
- Evidence showing how the visit will be funded.
Employment, business and study
- Employees: employment confirmation and approved leave where applicable.
- Self-employed applicants: GST certificate, company income-tax returns and company bank statements.
- Students: leave letter from the school or educational institution.
- Other evidence of continuing professional, business or educational circumstances in India.
Family visit and invitation
Where the purpose is to visit family or friends in Canada.
- Invitation or sponsorship letter from the Canadian host.
- Copy of the inviter’s passport and work or residence permit.
- Recent T4 or Notice of Assessment.
- Inviter’s employment letter, salary slip, bank statement and other status or financial evidence.
- Evidence of the relationship between applicant and inviter.
Children and sponsored applicants
- Applicants under 18 travelling alone: consent letter from parents or legal guardian.
- Sponsor letter explaining the expenses and arrangements covered.
- Sponsor’s identity, status and financial documents.
- Additional custody or relationship documents where relevant.
Form accuracy
- Enter information exactly as it appears in the passport.
- The applicant must personally sign every required form using the passport signature.
- If the passport has no given name or no surname, follow the supplied checklist’s naming instruction: place the passport name in the family-name field, leave given name blank and do not enter N/A.
- Keep the validated barcode page with the application record.
Biometrics
- Wait for the biometric instruction letter before attending a collection appointment, unless official instructions state otherwise.
- The supplied checklist says biometrics are generally valid for 10 years.
- It lists applicants below 14 and above 79, and qualifying diplomatic or official applicants, as exempt; verify the current IRCC exemption rules for your application.
- Retain evidence of previous biometrics for any later application.

Create the appropriate IRCC account, complete the validated form and upload the personalised document checklist.
Pay and submit
Pay the current application and biometrics fees shown by IRCC, then submit the complete application online.
Give biometrics if instructed
After receiving the biometric instruction letter, book the authorised collection appointment and follow any passport-submission request issued after a decision.
Before you apply
Important notes
- The supplied PDF lists CAD 100 for the visa and CAD 85 for biometrics. Fees can change, so use the amount shown in the live IRCC application portal.
- The document gives an indicative processing estimate of approximately two months or more. Current processing varies by country, case and completeness; check IRCC’s live processing-time tool.
- The PDF describes CAN+ expedited treatment as suspended. IRCC now determines any faster processing automatically for eligible applications; do not rely on a separate CAN+ request.
- The visa office can request more documents or an interview, and approval is never guaranteed.
