Core checklist
Documents to prepare
Start with these core items, then use the supporting sections for evidence relevant to your circumstances and travel purpose.
- Passport or travel document valid for the entire proposed stay, with a blank page for the visa.
- Completed online Standard Visitor application and generated appointment or document-submission confirmations.
- Evidence showing a permitted visit purpose, intention to leave the UK and sufficient funds for the visit and return journey.
- Certified translations for every document not in English or Welsh, including translator confirmation, date, name, signature and contact details.
Personal circumstances in India
- Employer letter confirming role, salary, employment length and approved leave, with recent salary slips.
- Students: enrolment confirmation and approved leave.
- Self-employed applicants: registration, invoices or evidence of ongoing business activity.
- Previous passports showing prior travel, where available.
- Evidence of legal residence if applying outside your country of nationality.
Funds and trip cost
- Recent bank statements showing accessible funds and their origin.
- Payslips, employer confirmation, tax records or business financial evidence.
- Realistic total trip cost and evidence you or your sponsor can meet it.
Purpose and arrangements
- Proposed dates, intended UK address and description of planned activities.
- Business visits: invitations, conference or meeting details and evidence connecting the organisations.
- Family or friend visits: host details and relationship evidence where relevant.
- Medical or other purpose-specific evidence for a specialised permitted activity.
Sponsor evidence
Include when another person or organisation will fund or host the visit.
- Letter explaining the support and its duration.
- Sponsor’s funds and suitable accommodation evidence, where relevant.
- Evidence of your relationship with the sponsor.
- Evidence the sponsor is legally in the UK, if applicable.
Children under 18
- Birth or adoption certificate or another document showing parent/guardian relationship.
- Signed parent or guardian consent, contact details, travel and accommodation arrangements.
- Parent or guardian passport photo page and custody documentation where relevant.

Important notes
- Prepare requested details such as dates, accommodation, cost, income, family and up to 10 years of travel history.
- UKVI says hotel and flight bookings are generally less useful supporting evidence; focus on credible eligibility and circumstances.
- Each family member needs a separate application and fee, and no document guarantees approval.
