Core checklist
Documents to prepare
Start with these core items, then use the supporting sections for evidence relevant to your circumstances and travel purpose.
- Completed and signed Finland Schengen visa application form. The supplied checklist requests all applicable signatures, including the additional multiple-entry declaration when relevant.
- Valid passport issued within the last 10 years, valid for at least three months after the intended journey, with at least two blank pages; include previous passport booklets where available.
- Copy of the passport biodata page and other passport pages requested by the current checklist.
- Two recent colour photographs, 35 mm × 45 mm, white or light background, approximately 80% face coverage, neutral expression and no glasses or head covering except for religious or ethnic reasons. Current VFS guidance may request one photograph, so confirm the live checklist before submission.
- Travel itinerary, confirmed return/onward flight reservations covering all sectors, and confirmed accommodation matching the itinerary with hotel name, address, telephone number and email.
- Schengen-compliant travel medical insurance covering the full trip and entire Schengen area, with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 including emergency treatment and repatriation.
Financial documents
- Original personal bank statements for the last six months, carrying the bank’s seal and signature as requested in the supplied checklist.
- Personal income-tax returns for the last three years.
- Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay and return journey.
Employees and students
- Employees: employment certificate or employer NOC confirming approved leave.
- Employees: salary slips for the last three months.
- Students: school or college leave letter, report card where applicable and student identity card.
Business owners and proprietors
- Covering letter on the company letterhead.
- Company bank statements for the last three months with bank seal and signature.
- Proof of paid income tax for the last three years.
- Company memorandum, partnership deed, establishment licence, proprietorship registration or equivalent ownership evidence.
Sponsored and retired applicants
- Sponsored applicants: sponsorship evidence and, where applicable, the destination country’s prescribed private-accommodation or sponsorship form.
- Sponsor’s identity, relationship and financial documents explaining the support offered.
- Retired applicants: retirement proof and pension statements for the last three months.
- Evidence of regular income from property or business, if applicable.
Honeymoon and family travel
- Honeymoon travel: marriage certificate or wedding card, plus engagement or marriage photographs as requested in the supplied checklist.
- Minors travelling alone or with one parent: notarised consent/NOC from the non-travelling parent or both parents, as applicable.
- Copies of the parents’ passports and documents establishing the relationship to the child.
Additional and presentation requirements
- Provide documents on A4 paper and do not staple them, following the supplied Delhi checklist.
- If a previous Schengen visa was issued but not used, include a written explanation of why the trip did not take place.
- Bring any additional document requested by VFS or the Embassy and be prepared for a personal interview.
- Handwritten passports, passports with observations on the biodata page and 20-year-validity passports are stated as unacceptable in the supplied checklist.
Application journey
From preparation to submission.
Complete the application
Use the official Finland visa portal, select the correct tourism purpose, complete the form carefully and print it for signature.
Arrange and book
Organise the documents in the requested order, book the appropriate Finland Visa Application Centre appointment and verify the latest centre-specific checklist.
Submit in person
Attend the VFS appointment with the application, passport, supporting documents and biometrics where required, then retain the receipt for tracking.
Before you apply
Important notes
- The supplied Delhi document says biometrics are mandatory for every New Delhi application. Current Finnish guidance says fingerprints are generally not recollected if they were captured for a Schengen application less than 59 months earlier. Follow the instructions issued for your appointment.
- Applications may be submitted up to six months before travel. The standard processing time is 15 days, but detailed examination can take longer.
- A valid visa in an old passport may not be usable after passport replacement; the supplied checklist instructs the applicant to submit a fresh application.
- The Embassy can request additional evidence or a personal interview, and no checklist guarantees approval.
