Documents to prepare
Start with these core items, then use the supporting sections for evidence relevant to your circumstances and travel purpose.
- Original passport. The supplied checklist states that it should be valid for at least three months.
- Recent photograph, 45 mm × 35 mm, white background and approximately 80% face coverage.
- Duly completed visa application form.
- Original signed covering letter naming all accompanying travellers, travel dates and who will bear the expenses.
- Accommodation bookings in the applicant’s or accompanying traveller’s name. For solo travel, the booking should show one guest.
- Day-by-day travel schedule and blocked round-trip flight reservations, including both outward and inward sectors from Bengaluru under this checklist.
- Photocopies of the passport front and last pages.
Employment and occupation
- Employees: original company NOC or approved leave letter.
- Self-employed applicants: GST registration certificate.
- Doctors: applicable KMC registration certificate.
- Lawyers: Bar Council identity card.
- Landlords or agriculturists: relevant property documents.
- Students: bona fide letter or certificate from the school or institution.
Financial evidence
- Applicant’s latest updated bank statements for the three months immediately before submission.
- Income-tax return acknowledgements for the last two years.
- Employees: latest salary slips for three months.
- Ensure statements and evidence are in the applicant’s name where required.
Sponsored travel
- Signed letter from the sponsor explaining the support offered.
- Sponsor’s updated bank statements for the latest three months.
- Sponsor’s income-tax return acknowledgements for the last two years.
- Copy of the sponsor’s identity document and evidence of relationship where relevant.
Travelling with others
- Copies of accompanying travellers’ passports, tickets and visas when they travel from another state or country.
- Family members or friends travelling together from Bengaluru should submit their applications together.
- If continuing to a third country after Japan, include a copy of that country’s visa.
- If divorced, include the divorce decree.
Karnataka residence proof
The supplied checklist is specifically for applicants under the Consulate-General of Japan in Bengaluru.
- Applicants must be current residents of Karnataka.
- If the passport was issued outside Karnataka, provide residence evidence such as current and previous rental or lease agreements, sale deed, gas-connection bills, Aadhaar card or electricity bills.
- Confirm that the chosen application centre falls under the correct consular jurisdiction before submission.
